It seems like forever since I have posted anything for an Iron Craft challenge but this challenge was right up my alley at this time of the year FELT! Halloween costume time!
Earlier this summer I had come across an idea for a costume for Thing 2 when I saw this cute idea to make an iPhone. Thing 2 loves his iPod so we adapted that costume to be an iPod.
It has the image of one of his favorite album covers on it, and of course apps at the bottom. It is not completely done (a week vacation to San Francisco got in the way), I need to finish attaching a few pieces and he was asleep so I could not try it on. It is basically a piece of white felt that he will wear like a sandwich board. For the finished costume he will wear his headphones that will be attached. I will post a picture of the costume with Thing 2 modeling it.

Project Project Runway #11- It's Fashion Baby
This week for Project Runway the challenge for the designers was to design an outfit for baby. This challenge was a weird one. Designing baby clothes is not the same as doing it for adults. I did like some of the outfits but a few of them presented some challenges if they were to be designed as is. You could tell that the designers never had to change a diaper by the lack of snaps to make the pants come off easy. No way would I have bought the overalls- to much work to change a diaper.
For our challenge on Project Project Runway we had the option to design a maternity outfit instead of a baby outfit. Since my babies are now 13 and 10 and no longer wanting mom to sew their clothes for them I decided to make a maternity outfit. When looking at a lot of the maternity clothes today I am amazed at how form fitting the clothes have become as opposed to the big baggie clothes that I wore. I did not like the tight stuff. Anyway, for my outfit I chose to make a pair of leggings paired with a black stretch top. The top has room for growth which is important when buying maternity clothes so they hopefully last a few months. If the mom to be wanted to wear the top as a dress she could as it is long enough.
The next challenge looks to be avant gard- my favorite :(

Project Project Runway #10- I Get a Kick Out of Fashion
So this week on Project Project Runway our challenge was to design an outfit for the Rockettes. It needed to be something that could be worn year round.
I thought this was a fun challenge.
I chose sequins and black Lycra.
At the end of our photo shoot Kathy and I decided to do a dance line of our own.

Project Project Runway #8- Starving Artist
This week the challenge on Project Project Runway was to create a look for fall and include outwear with it.
For my look I decided to make a red dress trimmed in black at the bottom. The look is finished off with a gray wool coat with 3/4 length sleeves to show off the dress underneath. The look would be paired with a great pair of boots.
The whole thing on the show with them having to sell their stuff on the street for their fabric money was ridiculous. I still wonder how they managed to make $800. Maybe I need to try it for a little extra cash.

Iron Craft # 18- All For Me
Wow! I finally have an Iron Craft project. I hope with the kids back in school, my part-time job getting back to part-time after a crazy summer and our family getting into a routine I will be able to get back to posting. I thought I was doing good this time and was going to be done in advance. But football practice for Thing 2 several nights a week, Art Academy and training our dog for Thing 1 I ended up finishing up with photos the night before. I guess the accomplishment is that I completed something.
This time for Iron Craft the challenge was to make something for ourselves. I knew it needed to be a quick project. I went back and looked at my Pinterest boards- is anyone else really good at pinning but never doing anything with it? I had pinned several card holders to hold the tons of loyalty cards that I have. I hate having them in my wallet and was thinking I would make something. I decided on this one by a Spoonful of Sugar. It was super easy, just what I needed and I love the results.
Sorry about the lighting. It was dark out and my dining room is not the best light.
I am off to think of my design for this week's Project Project Runway. See ya on the runway on Thursday.

Project Project Runway #7-Oh My Lord and Taylor
This week on Project Runway our challenge was to create a cocktail or evening dress to fit into the Lord and Taylor Project Runway Capsule Line while still showing your own design style. We are to design for the woman who loves fashion. She is sophisticated, stylish and has good taste. The dress needs to be designed simply enough to be manufactured.
For this challenge I chose to make a black full length dress out of a pattern "leather" I added a high collar with the form fitting dress.
I was not real motivated with this week's challenge- hopefully the judges don't notice that. I feel like a lot of the challenges so far have been somewhat similar. Then again, looking at the previews for this week I am not sure I want more. I hope I am safe this week.

Project Project Runway #6- Fix My Friend
This week on Project Runway the designers were assigned a client that had been "nominated" by a friend for a make-over. This episode made me feel frustrated like everyone else has voiced. Ven was on fire, and he needs to look in the mirror. I felt bad for the woman he was designing for.
This week for our challenge we were supposed to design for a friend. I am choosing a friend from work who like me wears very casual clothes to work most of the time. We are in recreation and spend a lot of our time out and about so heels and skirts don't work. Jen is over 6 feet tall, pear shaped and not a size 2. I thought I had a photo of her but could not find one on my home computer. Jen always has a hard time finding pants and skirts that are the length she wants.
I decided I would design a skirt and jacket for her to wear at an upcoming conference where she is making a presentation. I hope that what I made would be something that she would like.
I think the long jacket works well with the skirt and will be perfect with the flat shoes for running around a conference.

Project Project Runway #4- Woman on the Go!
This week on Project Project Runway the challenge was to design a look for the woman on the go who wants a stylish, modern and comfortable look that can be worn all day.
The woman that I designed for is a young mother with several young children. She is involved at school, her kids are active in a variety of activities and she wants to be comfortable going from place to place. But she also wants to look good and stylish. She wants to be ready for a quick lunch with friends as well as be able to meet with the other parents at school.
I designed a tunic dress out of gray stretch fabric. She can change the look for the occasion.
She is comfortable but looks good. The modern mom on the go.
Though I designed a simple dress I hope the judges give me credit for thinking about who I was designing for- a mom with kids wanting to look good. She is on the go all the time.
I am also hoping that I am given a pass next week as my model and her "family" head west into the Black Hills of South Dakota. There won't be anytime to spend in the studio. Looking forward to a normal schedule with the return of school :)

PPR #2- Candy Couture
This week's challenge on Project Project Runway brings us to the unconventional challenge. This time we were to create a look out of candy and other items from the candy store.
This challenge brought back memories of my struggles through the pet store challenge a few seasons ago where I tried to work with rabbit pellets and struggled horribly. I thought I chose wisely for this challenge: Nerds, Fruit by the Foot, Dots and Sprinkles.
I was ready to try different glue. I looked at my supplies again and decided to skip the Nerds- too close to the last time. For my look I used the fruit by the foot for my skirt and covered the shirt in sprinkles. I thought the look came together pretty good.
UNTIL I was getting her dressed for our photo shoot.
If you look closely on both photos you can see why it was the world's fastest photo shoot. The candy on top was melting on my model. We took photos so fast she didn't even have time for accessories. I think the next unconventional challenge I will skip the glue and candy :)

Project Project Runway- Week 1
Here we are in Week 1 of the new season of Project Project Runway.
This season the House of Nodrok is using a new model-Veronika.
Veronika was discovered while working as a nanny for a family in a suburb of Minneapolis. She was at the pool when we offered her a better gig. It will be exciting working with her in her first season on PPR.
Week 1- Time's Square Anniversary Party was the theme for the week. Designer's were challenged to take a look that we had designed in previous season that was an example of your design esthetic and design a complimentary outfit for this week. I struggled with this one. None of my designs were jumping out at me. I chose one from my final collect from last year and went with it.
This week's look is a floor length strapless dress with a layered bottom. I envision this dress flowing on the runway as Veronika shows it off. I chose simple shoes and a bag to go with it.
I hope that the judges will keep me around for another week to see what I can do.

Iron Craft #14- Denim
Wow- 2 projects in a row for me. It has been a while since I have done that. I HAVE been crafting this summer though- Kathy from Just Crafty Enough and I are doing the Granny Square Sampler that Wisecraft is hosting this summer. We are on week 9 and I am all caught up on my squares. Here is what I have done (minus last week- I need to take a new photo).
I never crocheted before so I am pretty happy I am hanging in there.
On to Iron Craft for this week. I knew immediately what I wanted to do. I needed a new bag to hold my make-up. My husband would say "you need a bag like you need a whole in the head" He knows my obsession with bags. I see one and want to buy it or make it. Anyway, I had pinned this bag on Pinterest a few weeks ago and decided this challenge was the perfect chance to try it out. The bag came in 3 different sizes and I was not sure what one I wanted so I thought I would try the small one. If it was not right, I would make another. You see, you can always find a use for a little pouch.
I loved how this bag came out.
I love the open top. It was pretty easy to make. I know I will be making a few more.
Hopefully I will have something the next challenge. I am also participating in my 3rd season of Project Project Runway. I never thought I would make it through one season let alone be doing a 3rd season. All of this during the busiest time of year for work...go figure!

Iron Craft #13- Red, White and Blue
This is going to be a quick post...the family is waiting for me to get in the car so we can head out of town for the 4th of July BUT I finally did a project so I am going to do a post darn it :) !!! They can wait.
This week's project is all Kathy's idea. She knew we were going camping so she suggested I make candles with citronella in them to use on our table. I had left over soy wax from a project last year so I was half way there. I bought some citronella oil at Whole Foods, some crystal gloss enamel at JoAnns and just used some small canning jars. I love how they turned out.
Let's hope they keep away the mosquitos!! HAPPY 4th of JULY!!

Iron Craft Challenge #11- Alphabet Soup
Wow, it has been forever since I have posted anything for Iron Craft. I have good intentions each time but never get it done. This time I was determined to do something. I need to get back to my crafting.
This week it is a simple project with the hopes of a big change. For some reason, we seem to use way too many cups in our house. There are times where the dishwasher is over half full with cups and glasses. I decided that this summer we were going to try something new. Each person in the house has their own plastic cup with their name on it. Each day you use the same one all day long, rinse if you are switching liquid but try and use only one cup. So, I found cups and rub on letters and labeled all our cups. My guess is the letters will rub off but the hope is that everyone uses their cup. We will see.
Here's to a summer of less dishes!!!

Iron Craft #6- Peeps!
The challenge for this week for Iron Craft was to do something with Peeps! I knew this challenge would bring back both Thing 1 and Thing 2 to the blog. I think it was the hope of getting to eat a Peep or 2.
Thing 1 is all about the Hunger Games this week. He wanted to see the midnight showing of the movie but it was a school night so instead we went right after school. When deciding what to do for his Peep project he decided to do several scenes from the Hunger Games with the Peeps.
He calls it Hunger Peeps.
Thing 2 did a simple scene.
He titled it "Rich Peeps"
I did not have an idea to make with real Peeps so I decided to make a couple of Peep plushy toys for the dog.
I love how they turned out and am not sure I want to give them to the dog as I am sure he will destroy them within minutes.
