Iron Craft #5- Green or "Green"

This week's challenge on Iron Craft gave us the option of either using something green or being "green" and reusing/repurposing something we already had.

I decided to use some old pillows that I had and re-stuff them and make new covers. The old ones had seen better days and with the addition of a new puppy last year somehow the dog got the corners of the pillows when Thing 1 and 2 were watching him. Of course according to the boys "not me" did it.

This was a pretty quick challenge but of course I waited until the last minute to finish. I took the old pillows, threw away the cover but added more stuffing to the original stuffing.

I then made a simple "envelope" type of cover.

I made 2 pillows but I finished the second one after it was dark out and did not take a photo. I love the new updated look and was happy with how easy it was to make them.

Iron Craft #3- Hearts and Flowers

This week Thing 2 is the lone representative for our group. Every year for the past 4 years on Valentine's Day he has wanted to make his cards for his friends at school. I love that he wants to do homemade versus the store bought ones. There is nothing wrong with the store ones, but I am glad that he likes to spend the time to make them.

I am off for a long weekend in Florida with my mom and dad.  Maybe Grandmabee and I can do the next Iron Craft together.

Iron Craft - Orange

Orange, the theme for this week's Iron Craft reminds me of that knock, knock joke that ends with "orange you glad I didn't say banana?"

Orange is not a color that I use much or have a lot in my wardrobe. Seeing that my sewing machine seems to be on the fritz- the reverse does not work all the time- I guess I need to take it in -I decided that I wanted to knit something. Off to the knitting store I went. I came across a scarf that I really liked, it was with bigger yarn (i.e.: it would be quick for me to knit) and I found some yarn that I loved.

I know, I know- not a lot of orange but if you look really close there are a lot of orange tones in it :) Just the right amount for what I normally wear.

Thing 1 also has decided to join us this week. For those of you new to Iron Craft, when I started the first year of Iron Craft is was due to the asking of my oldest, Thing 1. Since then Thing 1 and 2 will join in when they are able to. This week Thing 1 made a clay sculpture of the Master Chief's helmet from the game Halo 4. The inspiration is the orange on the mask. I take his word for it that the helmet is what he says it is... I am not a gamer.

For those of you that were participating in Iron Craft last year when we had the felt challenge I said that I would show my finished product. Well, I finally downloaded the photos off of my camera. I give you Thing 2 the iPod ready for trick or treating.

This week I finished my project ahead of time but as usually I am rushing on Monday to get the post done. I was actually done and had it set to post when Thing 1 arrived home from school and said he did something... off to Kathy's to do a photo shoot.

Iron Craft '13- #1 Cotton

I had promised myself that if I joined Iron Craft again that I would do better and get my projects done BUT here I sit the night before it is due, using photos from my phone because I finished late last night and didn't have time to do a better photo.  I did however get it done.  There was a time when I was about to give up but it is done.  And there is always the next one to try and get done early.

I was excited when the theme for this challenge was cotton. I had this fabric that I was wanting to use and had been wanting to make the great yarn sacks that Kathy had made for Christmas gifts. Now was my chance. I love how this turned out. It was a simple and quick project from me which was good since I was down to one day.

I also wanted to make a tote bag to go with this but that will have to wait.

Hopefully I will be back with more time to spare next challenge.

Iron Craft #26- Holiday Sparkle

Happy New Year!!

Happy 2013!

I was not planning on doing something for this challenge. I had asked Thing 1 to make a 2013 cut out found here for me to use on the table for our annual New Year's Eve gathering with Kathy and Matt. It was a paper craft so he was willing to help. When Kathy saw it she said I should use it at my craft for the Iron Craft challenge.

I wish everyone a wonderful start to the new year. One of my resolutions this year is to do more of the Iron Craft Challenges. Who knows maybe I can get the boys to join me once and a while.

Iron Craft #21- Felt

It seems like forever since I have posted anything for an Iron Craft challenge but this challenge was right up my alley at this time of the year FELT! Halloween costume time!

Earlier this summer I had come across an idea for a costume for Thing 2 when I saw this cute idea to make an iPhone. Thing 2 loves his iPod so we adapted that costume to be an iPod.

It has the image of one of his favorite album covers on it, and of course apps at the bottom. It is not completely done (a week vacation to San Francisco got in the way), I need to finish attaching a few pieces and he was asleep so I could not try it on. It is basically a piece of white felt that he will wear like a sandwich board. For the finished costume he will wear his headphones that will be attached. I will post a picture of the costume with Thing 2 modeling it.

Project Project Runway #11- It's Fashion Baby

This week for Project Runway the challenge for the designers was to design an outfit for baby. This challenge was a weird one. Designing baby clothes is not the same as doing it for adults. I did like some of the outfits but a few of them presented some challenges if they were to be designed as is. You could tell that the designers never had to change a diaper by the lack of snaps to make the pants come off easy. No way would I have bought the overalls- to much work to change a diaper.

For our challenge on Project Project Runway we had the option to design a maternity outfit instead of a baby outfit. Since my babies are now 13 and 10 and no longer wanting mom to sew their clothes for them I decided to make a maternity outfit. When looking at a lot of the maternity clothes today I am amazed at how form fitting the clothes have become as opposed to the big baggie clothes that I wore. I did not like the tight stuff. Anyway, for my outfit I chose to make a pair of leggings paired with a black stretch top. The top has room for growth which is important when buying maternity clothes so they hopefully last a few months. If the mom to be wanted to wear the top as a dress she could as it is long enough.
