PPR #2- Candy Couture

This week's challenge on Project Project Runway brings us to the unconventional challenge. This time we were to create a look out of candy and other items from the candy store.

This challenge brought back memories of my struggles through the pet store challenge a few seasons ago where I tried to work with rabbit pellets and struggled horribly. I thought I chose wisely for this challenge: Nerds, Fruit by the Foot, Dots and Sprinkles.

I was ready to try different glue. I looked at my supplies again and decided to skip the Nerds- too close to the last time. For my look I used the fruit by the foot for my skirt and covered the shirt in sprinkles. I thought the look came together pretty good.



 UNTIL I was getting her dressed for our photo shoot.



If you look closely on both photos you can see why it was the world's fastest photo shoot. The candy on top was melting on my model. We took photos so fast she didn't even have time for accessories. I think the next unconventional challenge I will skip the glue and candy :)

Project Project Runway- Week 1

Here we are in Week 1 of the new season of Project Project Runway. This season the House of Nodrok is using a new model-Veronika.



Veronika was discovered while working as a nanny for a family in a suburb of Minneapolis. She was at the pool when we offered her a better gig. It will be exciting working with her in her first season on PPR.

Week 1- Time's Square Anniversary Party was the theme for the week. Designer's were challenged to take a look that we had designed in previous season that was an example of your design esthetic and design a complimentary outfit for this week. I struggled with this one. None of my designs were jumping out at me. I chose one from my final collect from last year and went with it.



This week's look is a floor length strapless dress with a layered bottom. I envision this dress flowing on the runway as Veronika shows it off. I chose simple shoes and a bag to go with it.



I hope that the judges will keep me around for another week to see what I can do.

PPR #10- Sew 70's

After a few weeks off to settle in to the school year, the House of Nodrok is back this week. The designs of the 70's bring back bad photo memories from my childhood but I embraced the challenge and went with it. This week the challenge was to look to the past to find your inspiration and create a sophisticated 70′s revival design. For my first design I decided to do an updated twist on the poncho with black suede pants.

 The judges agree with my assessment that the pants ended up being a little long but the model refused to wear the high-heel shoes I picked out and walked on the runway barefooted.

 I was rushing in the workroom to finish my second look (kids needed to be picked up at school and Tim kept telling me the clock was ticking.) This look is a simple one piece dress with a belt.

I feel lucky to have gotten the second look done but hope that it will get me to the next week.

Challenge #5- Off Track

This week on Project Runway the designers were challenged to create a look to go with Heidi's line of New Balance shoes. This look is more my thing as I am either in sneakers or sandals depending on the time of year. So off to the studio I went.

 I found this great denim fabric with some black floral print on it and had some suede in the workroom. I started out thinking long skirt but when Heidi showed up in the workroom she shook her head at me so I decided a short skirt was the way to go.

    

I finished off the look with a sleeveless knit top.

 

I could totally see running errands in the skirt and a pair of tennis shoes. The outfit for the mom on the go.  Hopefully the judges don't think it is too ordinary and that I make it through to the next challenge.

 The show it self was a little too much drama for me. And the run at the beginning was a little strange.

Project Project Runway Challenge #3

Go Big or Go Home!

This week our challenge was to create a design for our models with them on stilts. It was an interesting challenge. It is hard to work with the model when she can't stand up during fittings....dowl rods for feet don't work so well.

When I first started out I thought I wanted to do pants with some kind of skirt over it and a wrap top. So into the studio I went. On the show, the designers were paired up with another designer. Being that I live blocks away from Kat we got together to work on our own designs. She is a great resource and it is fun bouncing ideas off each other. Mostly me needing direction.

I ended up doing pants after I saw how they turned out. I was so proud that I figured out how to make a pattern (I guess the years of making PJ's for my boys paid off :) )My top is styled off of an Indian Sari.
I am not sure where my model would be wearing this as I am not sure she would be able to go very far on stilts.

Watch next week will be a "normal" challenge and I will be out of town on vacation. Haven't decided if I am going to try to make the challenges up as I will have 2 to do.

PPR- Challenge 2- Pet Project

I had such high hopes for this challenge. Turns out I am not a huge fan of the unconventional materials.

I went to the pet store and ended up buying some candy covered millet pellets for rabbits and a red dog toy
.
I loved the colors of the pellets and the red went with the colors. My plan was to glue the pellets to the fabric and have a nice textured look.

That is where I went wrong....The glue actually made a sticky mess once it met up with the candy coating. They were sticking to everything. But they were also leaving a cool coloring on the fabric. Once I came to the realization that I was not going to be able to cover the whole dress in little, sticky pellets it was on to plan B.

Emelie, my model is coming down the runway in a dress colored from rabbit pellets, and a fleece jacket.  The belt is made from tubing on the handle of a fish net. The outfit is completed with a pair of red suede pumps.

I can see the judges now shaking their heads at the use of too much material...let's hope someone uses pee pee pads.

Project Project Runway- Challenge 1

Challenge 1: Come As You Are

Challenge: House of Nodrok choose to use what their model was wearing and a 10 " X 10" piece of white fabric to create their design.

We had 18 hours to create our creation.

Emelie's bathing suit was taken apart and the body was used for the tie halter top. It was then attached to the white to make a cute little summer party dress. It is backless to show off that summer bronze.

This challenge proved to be a little difficult with the model's measurements and the amount of material available. House of Nodrok hopes that the judges are easy on them as this was their first attempt at making anything but Halloween costumes. It was a fun challenge and the results look wonderful on Emelie.

Call Me Crazy

I can't believe I am doing it but I have joined Kat and Susi in Project Project Runway. I have never even watched the show and my fashion sense is basically t-shirts and shorts... I guess I can be the casual designer.

I would like to introduce you to my model for the season.

This is Emelie, and she was discovered in the the aisles of Target in Richfield. She is a simple but flexible girl. She will be joining the House of Nodrok for their first foray into fashion clothes. Prior to this they have specialized in Halloween costumes and pajama bottoms for boys. Both Emelie and the House of Nodrok are excited for the chance to work together. It should be an exciting season.
